Let’s just recap. We saw that the garden that God planted was the soul of the man Adam. In the midst of the soul/garden were two trees. Of one Adam could partake freely and of the other not. It was the one commandment of God, that is, Adam was not allowed to partake of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That tree was the fleshly part of man with all its lusts and hormones and emotions, his fleshly selfish nature. The fruit or works of that tree had everything to do with flesh. This is how Paul says it:

Galatians 5

19           Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

20           idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

21           envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The other tree was the tree of life or the Spirit of the God. That Spirit is the Lord Jesus or as we later came to know Him as, the Word.

John 1

1              In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2              He was in the beginning with God.

3              All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

4              In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5              And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Now the fruit of that tree was totally acceptable for the Father. These are the fruit of the spirit and this is how Paul says it:

Galatians 5

22           But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23           gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Friend Adam and Eve did not eat an apple and died spiritually. Rather they started partaking of a fleshly lifestyle and continued in it and died a spiritual death in it. They partook of fleshly sin. Adam’s soul or garden went and ate of the flesh tree and because of that God withdrew His Spirit from them because flesh and blood cannot please God. Also, the fruit of these two trees are the total opposite of each other.

Galatians 5

17           For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

The one was light and life and the other darkness and death.

2 Corinthians 6

14        …For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

After God withdrew from men they were considered dead and walked this earth, not as spiritual or living souls but rather dead or fleshly souls. It took an act of God for men to be saved from that and to be made alive again. That act was God offering His own Son on a cross so that whoever believes will be made alive again. We receive the Spirit of God named the Word or Jesus when we believe and we can once again partake of the tree of life in our own gardens/souls. Now when we partake of that Spirit and are led by that Spirit we are called sons of God just like Adam was.

Luke 3

38           the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Romans 8

14           For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

It is also very important to see something about the fruits of the flesh tree. Earlier we saw the works of the flesh that Paul said are evident. Those are all the bad works of the flesh. There are also works of the flesh that are not so evident. These are good works of the flesh.  The only thing is even good works of the flesh cannot please God. This also can clearly be seen in the garden of Eden. Next time we will focus on this specific point.

Till next time.

God bless
