Exposing lies in Modern Doctrines
For the longest time there have been accusations that the church might be wrong about certain doctrines. Some would even say that the church deceives people and knowingly promotes false doctrines. All in the name of convenience and political correctness. Most Christians vehemently defend the church as they see it as an attack on their faith. Unfortunately this defense is done mostly uninformed and in heated debate and even argument. Christians defend the church with their emotions and see it as an attack on God Himself. Very few Christians actually bother themselves to go look for the truth in the word of God through study and prayer. They see it as their duty to follow their pastor or denomination faithfully without questioning all the traditions and man-made do’s and don’ts. This is a very dangerous mind-set which leads to heresy as we can see by just looking at the Pharisees and Sadducees.
For the next few months we will make a study of these questionable doctrines to either prove or disprove them once and for all. We will be looking at them all, one by one to determine whether they are indeed biblical or just tradition that’s been handed down through the generations. This is also a good time for a warning. If you are stuck in your traditions and find it difficult to change, you better not read on. You will be challenged by what we dig up out of the word of God, and it will require an open heart and mind and probably change in beliefs and lifestyles.
But if you are willing to seek the Lord and truth with your whole heart, mind and soul, you are in for an adventure. Do not be afraid the test what you know, only test it by the word of God and not by what a seeker-friendly church system teaches. We need to decide to listen and obey that which the Spirit reveals to us in His word rather than preachers that can brilliantly stroke ears and know just what to say to fill seats and grow bank balances. Now as with any adventurous journey we need to be equipped for it. So before we start let’s equip ourselves with some knowledge on how God works and what to expect. First of all it is the Spirit of the Lord who convicts.
John 16:8
And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
It is not me!! So if you do feel conviction or see a piece of truth, accept it as from the Lord. It is not me trying to convince you of something or other. I am merely showing you what the Lord has revealed to me in my studies, the Lord will bring the conviction if and when necessary. It is also the Spirit that reveals truth and that which needs to be revealed
1 Cor 2:10
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
Secondly we need to know how the Lord designed His word and His process of getting to know Him and His truth. More accurately how we are to search for Him. He makes it clear in Isaiah 28 that we need to search for Him and truth throughout the whole bible. Here a bit there a bit. He designed it like that so that it would be a genuine search for Him and so that only those who truly seek Him and His truth will find Him.
Isaiah 28:9-10
Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.
You see getting to know the Lord and His truth is like building a bridge. We build on the foundation, and that foundation is Jesus or more specifically faith in Jesus. But we can’t stop there. We have to still build the rest of the bridge, piece by piece, and every piece is a load-bearing piece without which the bridge might come tumbling down. The trick is, to get all the pieces we have to go look for them in different places and with our whole heart and soul. Those that do not truly seek Him will probably stick to listening only to the pastor once a week or reading a paragraph a day. They will never really understand the word and the Lord will not manifest Himself and His truth to them because they’re not seeking Him with their all. In fact, the word will become a stumbling block to them and they will probably fall as it says in
Isaiah 28:13
But the word of the LORD was to them, ” Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little,” That they might go and fall backward, and be broken And snared and caught.
Here are a few examples of people seeking the Lord and finding Him
2 Chronicles 15:3-4
For a long time, Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law; but when in their trouble they turned to the LORD God of Israel and sought Him, He was found by them.
2 Chronicles 26:5
He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.
Then finally in our effort to build this puzzle of a bridge we have to realize that we would not be able to do it all in order. Sometimes we will discover a top piece and sometimes a bottom piece. That’s just the nature of it when looking for all the pieces in different places. So if we don’t get the order exactly right, please be patient. Keep hold of those pieces and don’t discard them as they will fit together sooner or later. Just be patient and your bridge will take shape before you know it and the picture will be so much clearer. I pray for wisdom and discernment for us and favor to find the Lord in such a way as you have never thought possible. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Till next time, God bless
