The Lord in His infinite wisdom gave us the perfect analogy in the bible to let us understand exactly how our souls are to operate. How our souls are to partake of the Spirit of God and not our fleshly nature. When we partake of the Spirit of God or obey Him, we partake of His Devine Nature, like Peter said in:

2 Peter 1

2              Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

3              as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

4              by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

How the soul partakes of the Spirit of God is pictured in the garden of Eden. As we go through these early writings in the book of Genesis, see if you can spot the spirit, flesh and soul in it.

Genesis 2

 8             The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.

9              And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

15           Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

16           And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

17           but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Did you spot it? Let’s look a little closer. The word for garden in Hebrew is “gan” which comes from the word “gannan” which means fenced or hedged about. See the garden here refers to the piece of ground that is fenced around and not about what is planted in the garden. But what does that mean? Simply that when God planted in the garden the garden was already there.  God took that piece of hedged ground and planted trees in it. That garden was the man Adams soul. God took the man Adam’s soul and planted in it. Ok so now we have found the soul but what about the spirit? Remember we learned that when God blew of His Spirit into the nostril of Adam he became a living soul. So then that Spirit was the thing that made Adam living. So then the tree that is in the middle is the spirit. To be more specific it is called the “tree of life”

 So the garden is the soul and the tree of life is the spirit. Where then is the flesh? There was another tree in the middle and it was called the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That tree then is the flesh. Remember we have learned that we are to put to death the deeds of the flesh and that flesh cannot please God (Romans 8). It was the same in the garden as God gave Adam one commandment and that was not to partake of the tree of knowledge of good and evil or the flesh tree. So that tree was nothing else but the fleshly nature that we are not to partake of. We are free to partake of the tree of life or Spirit of God as much as we like but we are forbidden to partake of the fleshly nature.

Knowing just this one truth will change your life and we will explore it in depth. It will take some time and study and faith. But it will also clear up a lot of false doctrines that abound because of a lack of knowledge and understanding. This is what the Lord said concerning the rejection of knowledge

Hosea 4

6              My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Till next time

God bless.
