When Adam and Eve died spiritually we all died. When Jesus laid down His Soul on the cross we received a means of gaining life once again.
1 Cor 15
45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
John 3
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 5
11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
When we believe in Jesus, we once again receive life or of the Spirit of God. This may seem a little strange but we only receive of the Lords Spirit once we believe. That is when we get reborn in the spirit. That is when we go from being a soul with a dead spirit to a living soul. Just like Adam in the garden God now wants to walk with us in spirit. God is Spirit and want us to serve Him in spirit and truth. You see once we believe we receive, but it does not stop there. Now there is something we have to do. We have to walk according to this spirit or put differently, we have to obey that new spirit nature that we received. In fact the word says that only those who walk according to this spirit are called the sons of God.
Romans 8
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
It is very important to see the difference between (believing and receiving) the Spirit, and (obeying or walking according to) this spirit. It is two very different things. So it is a two part plan. Part one is by faith receiving of Gods Spirit. Part two is by faith obeying His Spirit. Without faith we can do neither of the two. This is what James meant by
James 2
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
That then brings us to the doctrine, and this one is probably the most popular and incorrect out there. This false doctrine has many a Christian in its grip and because of this doctrine the churches are full of babies and very few mature spiritual believers. You see they are taught by the churches they only have to believe! That’s all, there’s nothing of repentance, nothing of obeying and nothing of being a doer of the word. ‘Just believe’ is a doctrine straight out of the enemy’s mouth. They are born again and that is where it stops. They continue on in their fleshly lifestyle and never grow in spirit. Oh dear friend if you hold to this doctrine, please examine your theology. You might be sincere, but friend you are sincerely wrong! It’s time to be led by the Spirit of God so that you can become a son of God and not just a baby of God. Remember in the previous blog post we learnt that we can indeed lose our salvation, we can die again spiritually. The enemy knows this full well and it is so much easier for a baby to be killed rather than an adult in spirit. It is not safe to remain a baby or just believe.
Next time we will look at how exactly do we obey the Spirit. Till then.
God bless.
